Revenues & Expenses

Finger Lakes Visitors Connection is a contract agency with Ontario County with the purpose of publicizing the assets of Ontario County for tourism growth. Ontario County, in consideration for the promotional services, provides funding to the organization from a 3% occupancy tax that was instituted in 2002. In addition to funding from Ontario County, the agency also receives some grant money from New York State Department of Economic Development. Additionally, FLVC, also has participation in its programs by the private sector who help sponsor many of the marketing activities of the organization. The levels of support will vary each year, as FLVC must "earn" its annual budget through occupancy tax growth and program offerings. Here is a breakdown of our revenue sources:

Finger Lakes Visitors Connection expenses are very focused on marketing initiatives and programs. Only 15% of the budget is spend in administration:

85% of the budget is dedicated to our marketing endeavors. Here is the breakdown for the current budget year:

You'll note when you look at the marketing programs that FLVC engages in many activities with under the regional program umbrella. These partnerships are a cost effective way to extend our reach in cooperation with others who have similar goals.

Each year, the Finger Lakes Visitors Connection President prepares a draft budget for the Board of Directors of FLVC. The Board reviews the budget line by line and makes recommendations. Another review of the budget is completed by the Ontario County Planning and Research Committee, to whom our agency reports. In addition to the yearly reports, the committee receives quarterly updates on the programs and their effectiveness.

If you are interested in more detail on the budget development process or expenditures, please call our office and we will schedule a review of the budget with you.

Trivia
During the time of building of Belhurst Castle, an old woodworker’s tradition was to carve your fellow workers. So, yes, we do have faces in the wood – there are 2 on the main staircase, 2 on the great hall fireplace, 2 in the castle lounge, 2 in the music room and 1 under the porte cochere
