Research & Resources
Finger Lakes Visitors Connection offices are a wealth of information for the travel and tourism practitioner. Whether you are looking for a special statistic, information on the number of meeting rooms in Ontario County, statistics on the visitors to Ontario County, or information to write a special article. We probably have it here. We are currently compiling a virtual library to put "on-line" by February of 2005. The library will be an inventory of all of our resources, coded for selection by topic and author, and sortable by keyword phrases. Of course you are always welcome to stop by and see exactly what we have. While an appointment is not necessary, your research will certainly go more smoothly if we know you are coming and can organize some information for you.
So, if you have some research to do, you may wish to access our library and see how all the information that we have "in-house" can help you.
Here are some of the categories of information that we have:
- Books on the Finger Lakes Region
- Conversion Studies on visitation to the Finger Lakes Region and Ontario County
- Models of pamphlets and brochures from across the country
- Studies on Visitor Demographics, emerging trends, and the outlook on travel and tourism
- Resources on motorcoach marketing
- Textbooks from travel and tourism, advertising, strategic marketing, and planning classes
- Resource directories for national and statewide visitor office and travel and tourism membership organizations
- Lodging Occupancy and Average Daily Rate Stats (all are combined data - no individual property data will be given)
- Marketing Plans and other publications of Ontario County Visitors Connection
- Information on tourism development proposals for the area
- Marketing Studies of various kinds, including the Randall Travel Marketing Report and the D.K. Shifflet reports
- Photo file resources
- Sales Tax Statistics
- Payroll and Job Statistics
Most information is available free of charge, some small duplication fees may apply in some cases. Additionally, there are some books which would prefer not to leave the building, as they are our single resource copy. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to helping every one get accurate information for your business purposes.

Trivia Patrick Cooke from National Geographic Traveler writes, "This was to be my last night in the Finger Lakes for awhile, and at midnight I walked down to the shore and skipped stones out across the smooth water where it was dark and enormous. Only a few sailboats clanked against their masts like a hundred wind chimes. I began to regret the places I had not been back to; a sentimental journey is the hardest kind to end. But I had seen enough for now. I would always come back. The Finger Lakes, after all, is home, and because it is home it is given a big place in the heart." |
